Marcia Burbank
Wiano Country Club, Osterville
Sometimes the things you need most seem to come "out of nowhere" just when you need them the most.
Marcia, a life long resident of the Plymouth MA area, was not a singer known to many local musicians. This despite the fact that she had been very active vocally throughout her life. She had been in school and church choirs with teachers. People in the area who were regulars on the Karaoke scene knew she had a strong set of "pipes." But still, not noticed by local musicians. For D.B.'s Orchestra, that was a good thing... a very good thing. When Dave Burbank discovered her he quickly laid claim. And surprisingly, he too didn't know of her vocal talent until he dated her for 4 months. Hard to believe that much raw talent had gone unnoticed for so long. How come? Simple: live musicians seldom go to Karaoke events and thus, even Dave Burbank had no idea.
By the way, Dave and Marcia are a very happily married couple as well as working partners. You might be interested to know that the personal and professional relationship began with a very tenuous "blind date." Not wanting to be just "fixed up" by friends with David she attended one of Dave's playing engagements, unknown to him, to have look for herself. Well, it was love at first sight and the rest is history, except for the fact that she kept her talent hidden from him for those first 4 months! Only as a result of attending a party, on a date, with a chance Karaoke machine available did Dave find out. Now you know the rest of the story...or do you?
The jump from Karaoke to live music is formidable, not easily done. After hearing her sing, the band was certainly thrilled and wanted her on board right away but Marcia was a little hesitant. Was her early training enough? Would the orchestra, in the long run, still accept her. Would anyone help her if that early training wasn't enough? Anyone who stands on stage in a live performance knows that embarrassment comes easy. But she did it. Marcia Burbank went from Plymouth's " Karaoke Queen" to our "Diamond in the Rough" and we in the band are as delighted with that as are her many fans.
But it doesn't end there. Not willing to rest on her laurels, Marcia has recently started training with the internationally known opera star, Norma Gustiani. Not only has she done that, she's also in training in the percussive arts with our own in house percussionist at Bob Doyle's Drumpad in Scituate MA. Many of you have probably noticed Marcia with Guiro, Tambourine or Cabasa in hand as you dance by the bandstand. That's raw talent at work folks. Marcia Burbank: our featured vocalist, assistant percussionist and our "Diamond in the Rough."
